Abstract

It is well known that pandemics have the potential to accentuate social inequalities and pre-existing social exclusion. But they can also be enablers of the creation of new social inequalities motivated by the common and specific characteristics and implications of each pandemic. This presentation analyses the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic both on old social inequalities and on the creation of new social inequalities, focusing on the Portuguese and European reality.
